Raising animals--beef and dairy cattle, poultry, horses, fish, hogs and more has become the most valuable segment of Virginia agriculture.  Efficient, science-based animal agriculture translates into affordable and high quality food for the consumer and Virginia’s horse industry continues to experience unmatched economic growth.  Today, animal agriculture accounts for 70 percent of the state’s total farm cash receipts.  Virginia Cooperative Extension helps growers use the latest research to improve farm profits and to manage animal enterprises in environmentally sound ways.
